In 2012, Catchafire issued a call to 600 nonprofits for the opportunity to win a makeover by MTV.
Who was the lucky winner? It was the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), a nonprofit that provides comprehensive training and employment services to men and women returning from incarceration. CEO gives our most at-risk populations a second chance, and supports them in their move into mainstream employment. Although the group serves more than 1,000 people every year, it needs to build its brand and visibility to have an even greater impact.
The promise of an MTV make-over offers a game-changing opportunity for the nonprofit, and a way for MTV to use the talents and skills of its staff for social good. “It was exciting to realize that the skills we use every day translate so well into supporting this nonprofit’s work,” said Tina Exarhos, who is the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Multi-Platform Creative at MTV.
To get this amazing partnership off the ground, Catchafire worked with CEO & MTV to scope the projects to meet CEO’s capacity building needs and match the skill-sets of MTV’s talented employees. After Pro Bono 101 training to ensure both parties were set up for success, the projects were underway!
Over the course of the next two months, Tina and other skills-based volunteers from MTV will work with CEO on a communications and marketing strategy that will help the nonprofit raise its visibility. MTV’s pro bono work will also highlight the tremendous impact the organization is having on breaking the cycle of recidivism, and on helping the families and communities of former inmates.
How will MTV’s skills-based volunteers transform CEO and the lives of people coming out of incarceration? Find out in April when Catchafire unveils the makeover’s results!
